VIT successfully delivered a high-precision robotic system designed to automate the assembly and feeding of C48 cartons used in tobacco production lines. This project involved handling complex carton forming with extremely tight tolerances, eliminating manual effort while ensuring consistent performance at industrial speed.
Technical Applications
The C48 carton consists of two separate folded components: a bottom (inner) part and a top (outer) part, each supplied in stacked form. The robot was programmed to:
Pick and open the bottom carton component from its stack
Pick and open the top carton component from a separate stack
Assemble both parts by precisely sliding the top over the bottom, a process requiring exceptional alignment and minimal clearance
More INFO
Once assembled, the C48 carton—with its flaps still in a vertical orientation—is transferred to a secondary station. There, a pneumatic mechanism, also engineered by VIT, performs controlled flap opening, preparing the carton for smooth entry into the press feeding system.
This installation reflects VIT’s ability to develop robotic systems for mechanically sensitive and geometrically constrained tasks, particularly in sectors like tobacco where packaging precision directly impacts product integrity. The project combined advanced robotics, precision mechanics, and custom handling tools, demonstrating our expertise in automating specialized packaging operations.
